Hey iPhone users! Check us out on Public Radio Player. It’s free and easy to use. And the best part? You get to listen anytime anywhere!
Once you download the app, click “local” on the top bar. You’ll see all the WOSU channels (24-7 classical, 24-7 NPR, and Capital City Radio). Click Capital City Radio to start listening and hit the star at the top to make it a favorite! Voila…you’re ready to go!
NPR Music has put together a mix of some of the creepiest songs for the season. Those with weak constitutions, take caution–a great, terrifying playlist awaits!
Halloween, as a holiday designed to alleviate our fears through mockery, tends to inspire songs that, to put it lightly, aren’t terribly subtle. Which brings us to Ghosts in the Machine, in which NPR Music staffers and station partners observe the holiday by assembling a chilling collection of songs about ghosts, hauntings, and otherwise disembodied spirits.
Leonard Cohen plays tonight at the Palace Theatre starting at 8pm! As a fan, I’m practically beside myself in anticipation.
If you’re going, please stop by WOSU’s table and meet Eric French, our recording engineer/host for Capital City Radio, along with the whole Cap City Radio crew. They’ll be handing out buttons and pens, and will dazzle you with knowledge of local music.
I’ll provide some post-concert buzz tomorrow, but I’ll probably wind up gushing over Mr. Cohen like a fawning teenager. He’s been in heavy rotation in our household for months, and we can’t get enough of him.
Good grief, this is bad! But I like it… The tape sync is awful and sped up and the backing band is hilarious. Doesn’t he kind of look like Jim Carrey???
www.grahamparsonspetition.com I’ve been on a Graham Parsons kick lately. Some people feel that he should be in the country music hall of fame, so check out this link. I’ve also been on a Wilco kick. Here’s where the 2 meet. (Note the Wilco lineup on this performance is from the Golden Age of Wilco, featuring guitarist Jay Bennett and drummer Ken Coomer.)
As a genre, scary movies are my favorite. They can make you think (George Romero), they’ll scare the pants offa ya (Dario Argento), and they make for great comedy (the scene in Dawn of the Dead where the biker gang throws a pie in the zombie’s face? Brilliant.) A-list, B-list, good, bad, whatever, I just like ‘em. (Except for Saw and Hostel and the like.)
Anyway… Zombieland isn’t heavy like a Romero film. It’s really not that scary. Not as witty as Shaun of the Dead. The lead actor is ripping off Michael Cera. Actually, it doesn’t excel at anything… But the movie’s awesome, nonetheless. Go see it. Woody Harrelson is hilarious.
