“Sweet kicks, bro” and a Capital Noise Update!
It may be the Easter week/end, but the shows are ON! Capital Noise is, as always, your humble servant to keep you appraised of the concert situation in town. Don’t let the holidays fool you(oh that’s right, I made a pun! Boosh!), there are great shows for some ready cash. Fanfarlo is in town on April Fool’s Day for just $5.
And my favorite band update this week, well they’re just $10. And they rock. It’s Foxy Shazam, who got their name from sweet kicks. No, seriously.
I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was one of two white boys in an all-black high school. The band name Foxy Shazam came from a saying in my school meaning, “cool shoes.” If you had cool shoes kids would say those are “foxy shazam.” Because of this we have a lot of soul, and try to let it bleed through our music as much as possible.

They’re pretty glam, ala the great Queen. Though they may not be Freddie Mercury, they make me pretty happy. Enjoy!
Check out the Set-List anytime for a preview of all the shows in town this week.

BAM! WHAP! Capital Noise Update!!
Holy plethora of shows, Batman! If you can’t find an act to go see this week, you’re just not trying. And not having tickets for the sold out Vampire Weekend show is no excuse. There’s something here for everyone, so listen to the show and get a feel for something you want to check out, cause the pickin’s are slim next week/end with the holiday.
And if you have friends who bested you in line for VW tix, go out with them for dinner and a drink beforehand and then sidle on over to Joanna Newsom or Train , who are both gonna be in town that exact same night. So no whining!

You’re welcome.

ZOMBIES!!!…and a Capital Noise Update
So, I’m not really a huge electronica/house music fan, but holy frijoles, do I love ZOMBIES! And Designer Drugs, who will be in town this week, have made a merry combination. There are no lyrics, other than occasionally hearing the word, “ZOMBIES!” said in a ridiculously dramatic fashion, which makes it even better. Try not loving this.
Also in this week’s Capital Noise, check out the SXSW acts that are gonna be in town the next couple weeks, and remember, NPR has an awesome site you can follow, listen live, and get previews and reviews of the entire SXSW scene!

RIP Mark Linkous
Last Saturday Mark Linkous, indie rock icon and founding member of band Sparklehorse, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
For a good write up on Mark Linkous’ work check out this Guardian UK article. Below is a video of Sparklehorse performing the song Saturday live for Current.

Gin & “It”
If you love Rope then you owe it to yourself to see this play. It’s hard to describe, but Reid Farrington has separated the actors from the film, projecting them as apparitions on a live set and supplied his own technicians to keep the “1 take” feel of the movie. Art that fires up your brain, makes you laugh, but isn’t so far out there that you don’t get it. I approve. Go see it. Tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday at the Wex. http://www.wexarts.org/pa/index.php?eventid=4323

Scratch My Back
This goes into my must-have category. I’m pretty sure that even if Peter Gabriel were covering the worst music in the world, it would become cool somehow.
On paper, it’s a fool’s errand: Peter Gabriel, a 60-year-old icon with one of the most distinctively dusky voices in rock, gets down with the young folk by covering the songs of Arcade Fire, Radiohead and Bon Iver, alongside tributes to peers such as Neil Young, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Randy Newman and others. Scratch My Back ought to be the ultimate in inessential vanity projects — an album-length love letter to a star’s impeccably curated record collection — but it flat-out isn’t. Instead, it actually does what it’s supposed to do; namely, do right by both the singer and his source material.
